Want to know more about Habitat for Humanity? Here are some frequently asked questions.
What is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live.

What does Habitat for Humanity do?
Habitat for Humanity builds simple, affordable homes with and for families, couples and individuals in need of housing.

Can my donations be picked up or do I need to deliver them?
Free donation pickup is offered for Logan County (and some surrounding areas upon request). A Tax Donation Slip will be provided as well when your items are picked up. We also accept delivery of donations. Please call if you have any questions. 937-592-2827

Why do you accept cash donations?
Building and renovating homes is expensive! We work hard throughout the year to be able to provide our many services to as many people as possible, and part of that work includes seeking donations from individuals. The Buckeye Ridge team works together to determine where our resources are most needed, from purchasing construction materials, to acquiring building permits, to paying subcontractor fees, or other expenses. The greater our resources, the more people we can serve in our community!
How does Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program work?
Families and individuals in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership with their local Habitat for Humanity. Each local Habitat’s family selection committee selects homeowners based on three criteria:

* The applicant’s level of need.
* Their willingness to partner with Habitat.
* Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan.
* Decent Credit.
As part of their willingness to partner, Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat’s homeowners.

Once approved, the recipient is required to take credit counseling and home ownership classes at their expense. Habitat for Humanity of Logan County provides access to the training course.
Are Habitat houses free?
No. In addition to the hundreds of hours of sweat equity that homeowners put into the building of their homes, they purchase their homes through a 0% interest mortgage provided by Habitat, or through a USDA Direct Loan at up to 5.5% interest.
What is a Habitat for Humanity ReStore?
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Proceeds are used to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world.
Can I donate materials?
In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sell reusable and surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. To donate materials, contact your local Habitat ReStore.

What donations are not accepted?

Nearly every item that we receive as a donation can be used or sold in our ReStore. Just like how you enjoy clean and safe items in your home, we want to ensure that every donated item is useful and of good quality. There are times when even gently used items may not be accepted. There are also a list of items that do not sell in our community and we do not accept them as donations. We also want to make sure that every donated item meets a certain standard of quality.
All donations are subject to review and can be refused per the discretion of the board and staff. Please visit our ReStore page for a full list of acceptable and unacceptable donation items.
